Floria 2011 @ Putrajaya


On July 14 2011, our department went for a site visit to Floria 2011 in Putrajaya [website here > FLORIA 2011]. Floria is organized as a yearly event and mainly focused on flower exhibition, themed landscape display joined by landscape contractors and nursery owners. This one-day trip are hoped to expose students to the hardscape and softscape material available in the market and to gain fresh ideas into their coursework and studio works.

Diploma in Landscape Architecture - Career Prospect

There are many questions raised over the prospect of the Landscape Architecture profession, mostly sounds like, 'will i be able to secure a job after i graduated?' Most of our graduates were able to secure a job in the first six months after their graduate/finishing their course's syllabuses. Most of them worked in a landscape firms, landscape nursery and landscape contractors. Some of the examples of jobs offered for the graduates of Diploma in Landscape Architecture are :

Diploma in Landscape Architecture - Course Structure



These program structure is draft briefly just to give the overview on subjects taught and what students will learn in their three academic year. 

YEAR 1
Graphic Communication
Introduction to Landscape Architecture
Landscape Design Studio I
History of Landscape Architecture
Plant Material


*In the first year, student will we taught on basic technical skills like free-hand drawing and principles of design. At the end of this stage, they will be able to design a personal space, for example - residential and courtyard.

*After completing the first year syllabuses, students will be exposed to a larger scale of studio project and much sensitive area/space to deal with - recreational, natural parks & urban space design. In this second year, they will also get into more technical part of constructions and space planning.

*Third and final year, where students will be completing their diploma course and performing their industrial training. In the final semester, students will be sent for training at any ILAM-recognized landscape firm or local authorities that has Landscape Department.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
·         To produce quality, competent and versatile graduates to perform the task in the field of Landscape Architecture
·         To enable graduates to apply their knowledge and skills in design discipline in relation to the environment enhancement and conservation
·         To produce graduates with technically competent in problem solving, analytic thinking, wholly creative based on ideas supported with facts
·         To produce graduates who are able to demonstrate mastery in communication skills
·         To produce graduates who are able to comprehend, analyse and integrate natural environment and human factors
COURSE HANDLING METHODS
Studio work consists of 12-15 hours a week, lecture, tutorial, site visit, project analysis, nursery practice, related software training and industrial training.

Pass SPM / SPMV with 3 credits in any subjects preferable in Mathematics or Arts
